Neil’s Mission United Success Story

Neil lived in an apartment where his rent increased from $1,100 to $1,700 in two years. His only income was disability from the VA, and he could not make ends meet.

“I spoke with Nishika (Director of Economic Mobility), who listened to my cry for help,” Neil said.

The next day, Case Manager Keia Wilson assured Neil that UWLS could help if he found a more affordable place.

“I searched high and low,” he said.

He found an income-based rental, was approved and even received a veterans discount, making rent $722 a month. UWLS’ Mission United program paid for his move-in costs.

United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties’ Mission United program works to ensure local veterans get the support they’ve earned.
