Health: How We Help
In Lake and Sumter Counties, approximately 70,000 families are at risk for food insecurity and 188,000 people rely on soup kitchens and food pantries to feed themselves and their families. Meanwhile, Florida ranks 12th in food insecurity and SNAP recipients. United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties is working to build healthier, more resilient communities by increasing access to quality healthcare and preventative care. Our priority is to improve and promote healthier lifestyles, providing access to health services and nutrition resources to support opportunities for a healthy lifestyle for all.
The FamilyWize program provides prescription discount as well as drug price comparison that can be used whether you are insured or uninsured.
Thanks to a strong partnership with the Universities and Colleges in our area, we always have the privilege of working with interns. This year, our health program intern, Sydnee, took the time to create TWELVE months of health tip flyers. Each month is dedicated to a specific topic and each flyer may be downloaded for electronic sharing or printed for displaying in your office. Help keep health at the top of their focus with Sydnee’s great effort and results!
