How We Help: Health

Building a healthier community.

In Lake and Sumter Counties, approximately 70,000 families are at risk for food insecurity and 188,000 people rely on soup kitchens and food pantries to feed themselves and their families. Meanwhile, Florida ranks 12th in food insecurity and SNAP recipients. United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties is working to build healthier, more resilient communities by increasing access to quality healthcare and preventative care. Our priority is to improve and promote healthier lifestyles, providing access to health services and nutrition resources to support opportunities for a healthy lifestyle for all.

Everyone deserves to be healthy, that’s why we expand access to affordable healthcare, healthy food and opportunities for physical activity, so that everyone can lead happy and successful lives through our health programs, innitiatives & Resources.

Together for Health & Wellness

Together For Health & Wellness is a direct service of UWLS under our health initiative. The program will serve as health advocacy and a connection to resources for our uninsured and underinsured residents. The purpose of Together for Health & Wellness is to confront the issue of health, identified as one of the top five root causes of poverty in our community.
