Discover the Born Learning Trails in Lake County
Did you know that gross motor development – skills like jumping, running, hopping, and skipping – plays a key role in how children learn and grow? When kids play outdoors, they explore the world around them, discovering changing seasons, weather, and wildlife. Every puddle jumped and leaf collected sparks curiosity and builds a foundation for lifelong learning.
That’s why United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties, in partnership with Lake County and the Board of County Commissioners, has transformed local park spaces into fun, engaging areas for early learning through the Born Learning Trails initiative!
Each Born Learning Trail features 10 colorful, interactive signs with playful prompts and activities designed to get young children – and their parents or caregivers – moving, thinking, and learning together. These trails turn an ordinary park visit into an opportunity to explore language, numbers, and nature through joyful, active play.
We’re proud to offer multiple Born Learning Trails across Lake County, with even more on the way! So grab your sneakers, bring the family, and get ready to hop, skip, and jump your way to learning in the sun at one of our beautiful local parks.

On October 30, 2024 the United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties and the City of Wildwood celebrated the Grand Opening of The Born Learning Trail at Martin Luther King., Jr. Park!
