Celebrating Women’s History Month

March 2024

As the Chair of Women United, an affinity group of United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for all the women volunteers who continue to serve our community.
Women United is fostering a community of engaged, passionate women supporting United Way’s mission, through contributing our time, talents and resources to advance positive change in our community.
On March 8th each year, we celebrate International Women’s Day. The United Nations first recognized International Women’s Day in 1977 as a global holiday celebrating women. The International Women’s Day 2024 campaign theme this year is “Inspire Inclusion,” encouraging everyone to recognize the unique perspectives and contributions of women from all walks of life, including those from marginalized communities.

I celebrated the holiday with a girlfriends’ night out to see the movie “Cabrini.” The film tells the story of an empire of hope built by a woman with great faith. Mother Cabrini was an Italian American Catholic religious sister. In her lifetime of service, Mother Cabrini choose courage when she was afraid, faith when she was losing hope, determination when she had no more energy. Her life was difficult, but she empowered change because she believed her calling was helping those in need.
The movie characterizes what Women United is about, a dedicated group of women taking charge, inspiring the change. I am asking you to join Women United today. We are purpose-driven team of women making an impact to “Inspire Inclusion” in our community.
