Human Care Network

Responding to the rise in the number of people with the urgent basic need for food, United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties, Inc. supports a Human Care Network of agencies that include 14 food pantries strategically selected throughout Lake and Sumter Counties. Each month these food pantries serve 12,000 lbs of food to 2,020 local residents, on average.

United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties invests in a network of local food programs and initiatives, which allows us to maximize our reach to local residents and strengthen the impact necessary to successfully meet the human care needs of local residents.

Residents in need of food can call 2-1-1 or 1-877-431-3668 to learn about the food pantries available in your area.

FINANCIAL STABILITY

The United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties, Inc. fosters internal programs that serve to promote the financial stability of Lake and Sumter County residents. VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) provides free income tax preparation to low income households so as to save them the cost of tax preparation and assure that the families receive all eligible tax credits.

Basic Needs

Our Basic Needs program consists of the Human Care Network and 2-1-1. The Human Care Network consists of 14 food pantries that provided food to approximately 6500 unduplicated individuals. The 2-1-1 program facilitates connections between people who need human services and those who provide them. Lake and Sumter County residents can receive information and referrals 24/7 about food, housing, health care, employment services, support groups¸ counseling, education, clothing, volunteering, legal aid, and more. In 2013, this program provided information and referrals to 7,432 callers.
